Projected March Project – Shamrocks

I was searching sites for St-Patty’s Knitting and lawd only knows what other keywords. I wasn’t really planning on personally doing any projects but I do have a swap for March and of course our theme is green.
Well so this skully is very cute and any shamrocks of course make me happy.. this simply will not do for a full March Project and even if it would.. too bland. Has to be like a tam.. you know? Full FairIsle like pattern and light enough that its not a heavy winter wooley warmer. March in most areas,  is the last of the cool weather but still chilly to warrant comfort on cool mornings.

Well who would have thought a shamrock clover little shrub O green would be so difficult to resource and draw a basic pattern together for. from. You get what I mean.

The Google – yielding some dastardly pictures:
Shamrock Super Hero.. Lovely.

So I have laid out the charts again and I devoted to designing a shamrock. Now hush. Poinsettia was designed and created into a scarf which is still in the works.. having to stitch for other swap friends right now not myself. But a pattern is easy to get going and work through over the next two weeks so I can post it for everyone to use!

I am off to the library to see if they have any useful details (doubt it in this one horse town) on some pattern suggestions.

Neat Scarf

How awesome is this ! For all those HP fans and those looking for free patterns and fun stitches. I found this while looking for pictures for the HSKS Quidditch Match.
Its an illusion scarf which means when looking at it one way it appears to be slight in pattern when laid the other – the pattern is clearly visible.

Its detailed at Lindsay’s Site
Which I read on a pretty regular basis but missed this from last year. I first found her on Craftster when she was posting about her BrainSlug (Futurama Fans WOOT!)
My first activities in the morning usually involve trying to breeze through blogs. I have so many I love its difficult.
I signed up for knitting daily and found some other great sites to get newsletters from and sign up for free patterns. I really have to post a list sometime soon because I forget where I like to go 🙂

Package from Kristie

I haven’t had time to post in the last few days. Its been as usual crazy around here. I have finally been able to take photos of the box my Jan Swap Partner Kristie sent me. Complete Surprise and really full of goodies.
Ok I said it on the blogspot for the crochet swap – but how much do I love the fact the needles are pink!!! I’ve already got a project on the circulars. Oh yes those RockStar needles actually inspired me to try this knitting in the round thing again.  I am making a Phiaro Scarf from KnitScene. I am about 10% into it. Its a big project and I dont knit as fast as most I think. I dont know maybe I just dont have the time others do to knit projects but I am committed to understanding this one! I want the feeling of knowing I can follow a pattern. Cast On Cottage (LYS) has a class where if you get stuck on a pattern you can go down and they will help you figure it out. Once I get to the end of this I will prob need that as it calls for some stitch dropping. I would hate to knit 22 inches of Stockinette Stitch only to discover I messed something up in dropping and then have to frog!

Often thats what kills my interest or ability to want to learn new knitting techniques. I get very sad when I mess up and have to frog.
On the needle news – I previewed the Spring 2008 issue of Interweave Knits. Ok how cute is this:

Very Audrey Hepburn!  I really need to order some back issues of IK. There are some really great projects in there. I am also really needing to start watching the ebay side of things for Rowan pattern books. Some of their patterns are just stunning.

Free Patterns have moved to Knitting Daily. I really have to start checking these sites because I just found some awesome pullovers and patterns for spring!
Also I posted this on ravelry – DOT’S DOOHICKEY
Its a great little organizer and really great for a desk or to use up extra scraps.

Well thats my mental out pour today. I am off to knit while i listen in on a call!

You now officially have your very own coupons for JoAnns and Michaels. They are both having yarn and supply sales plus with the 50% off coupon – maybe you could find a tote or some other stock stuffs that you need!

Also my books from BAMM came today… omg ! Book Reviews on the way !

I have two FairIsle books. A Tams book. Two knitting designer types. All so far look amazing especially the really old FairIsle book I found and the Design your Own Knits. Its all charts you easily customize with a cheat sheet to get the right gauge yarn etc for a project. Each and every item has a master pattern then using the conversion you make what you want how you want with your own yarn and even customize sizes. For those of us who dont live in the size 0 world… you know with a 32 inch chest…

My First Design!

♥Christmas Poinsetta ♥

I *designed* a scarf pattern with a color inlay. It’s kind of a “FairIsle” design and something I have been working on to try and teach myself FairIsle color working. I do not consider it nothing more than a work in progress but wanted to share the basic pattern of the color way with you.
The yarn was preselected as a choice for a scarf and then of course I fell in love with Noro mentioned on the Three Tams project. I had nothing to knit up over the last week as I did not organize any knitted xmas gifts. I saw some other patterns that had similar qualities and started playing with working color. What I came up with was wonderful. Then my mind of course started doing overtime and the design got better.
I really like the pattern and may have just created everyones christmas gifts for next year.. WAHAHAH!

Needles : US6
Yarn: MC = Lion Brand Micro Spun color 098 = French Vanilla
CC (color B) Noro Silk Garden color = 255
Actual directions will be posted shortly on a real pattern. For those who do color work however and have experience this will allow you to understand my madness. I was able to include two poinsettas in my scarf so I think I CastOn about 50-52 stitches. Just as a starter point. I will revise this again once I actually restart. I have frogged the first one. Its gone.. so lets all have a moment of silence.. lol.

Noro Nightmares and Buying my Own Christmas

Loopy Ewe Love– this week I picked up some DPNs and a Circular that are detailed in Angela’s pattern for her Three Tams  on Knitty Winter. I love Tams and was really excited to find very low cost needles on LoopyEwe. Always a bargain to be found there, I really love the site and Sheri. She includes treats for Loopy Groupies (me) and they are always exquisite. This time two yarn samples included – Lorna Laces (Shepherd Sock) and Cherry Tree Hill (Supersock). I really like getting the yarn cards. To be able to stitch a few stitches feel the yarn and see colorways helps make better decisions about purchases (just my opinion). The second treat was SOAK. This stuff is really a pleasure. Its Eco-Happy and just an all around great product. My thought – this came in perfect time for some last minute knit up scarves for the holidays. I will be able to soak them all and have them fresh and yummy for gifting.

On to the Noro.. this is interesting stuff.. let me tell  you!
I picked up colorway 255 that was again mentioned in the 3 Tams project. Its a weird colorway reminding me of the ocean for some reason. This is my fist time seeing Noro. I have to admit I am a little scared and delighted. Its rough not shiny soft or sparkly- which is usually what attracts me to a yarn. I think its the foamy rough sea after a hurricane look … that makes me think of the ocean and mermaids. Its hewn and yar its so very sea glass… . I am excited to use it. I however have officially decided to take some classes first. All this book reading. All this work on DPNs .. I am not getting the whole knitting in the round – magicloop – dpn- or sock thing. I CAN knit on two needles. I can make dishcloths – scarves and even hats that need seamed. I suck eggs at joining and working proper gauge  much less stitches in the round. Something in my brain just isnt loading the data. So I cleaned out the basement the other day and discovered I have the following books in my library:
Knitting Directory – Alison Jenkins
Kids Knitting – Melanie Falick
Scarves – XRX (a knitters dozen – patterns)

All are very good – but I am actually going to read and attempt to get some deeper feedback. I also discovered a BooksAMillion gift certificate I never cashed in. Well it seems gift cards loose their monetary value a little each year, so I only had about 100$ left on this one. I wasn’t even sure I had anything ON it but low and behold BAMM rewarded me with a surprise. So.. in my quest for deeper knitting knowledge I bought the following for myself for Xmas:
Knitting by Sharon Turner
Teach Yourself Visually Knitting Design by Sharon Turner
Knitted Tams by Mary Rowe; Ann Sabin
Fair Isle Knitting by Sarah Don
The Art of Fair Isle Knittingby Ann Feitelson

The logic behind knitting math is detailed in Sharon’s design series. This is the because problem I have. Anything that involves math – brain blocks me. I am completely math *unable*. So rather than letting this block me any further I am going to work through it. Ive come to discover.. I really can crochet anything. I am a pretty darn swift sweet crochetahooker. Its the K2Got that gets me.. what exactly is a SSK and why do I need to know that again?
Yes yes I really do know..  but when it comes to patterns color work and heaven forbid adding or subtracting for purpose of pattern.. nnnnggggg the headache begins.
So.. part of my self Christmas gift giving was getting some books with this long lost card. Yippee! I need to find a place to log all my books and mags.. cause honestly I have a ton and those that are always asking me what I want (like I am REALLY that hard to buy for) have no clue that I have this secret book fetish.

People I love – I tell you this over and over.
Come on. .. if you cant be creative and go look at my bookshelf – or ask me if I have a particular knitting book.. for goodness sake.. be sneaky or not but buy me books!

Boteh Scarf

I had to put down the DPNs and knitting needles. That’s it. Need a break 🙂

I am pretty proficient in crochet more so than ever in my life. I still have a few issues with reading patterns but that’s what frogs  are for !
I remembered seeing a beautiful ocean wave patterned scarf. Almost like a line of paisleys lined up whooshing down a tiled floor. I found the picture in a crochet flickr group to start and was just smitten with the pattern never having enough faith I could do that. That’s always my stopping moment .. I think oh that’s just too complicated for me I don’t have the skill set.
I need to learn to either stop that voice in my head try and fail or try it and be satisfied I can and did the job.
That voice causes so much doubt everywhere else in my life its not even funny.

So something amazing happened. I googled the pattern. Found out it was available in the Interweave Press Crochet Summer 2007 Back Issue  Silly me silly silly silly.

I so quickly forgot a few months back I ordered several of the back issues and even got one free in a special promotion they were running.
SO out came all the magazines. Yes I need shelves to store supplies its official. I am organizing tonight.
There it is.. in its wavy glory. I broke out the beautiful yarn Christine  sent me for our scarf swap. I wanted to use this because its so soft blue and beautiful it felt like the Boteh. With in minutes I had worked out the pattern, and my hands were shuttling along creating this fabulous-ness.

I can not believe I completely forgot I had all these back issues !
