Secret Cocoa Pal Surprises!

Oh be still my HEART !!!
Yes ok so now I officially know who you are my dear secret friend – but we will keep that hush hush for now.. (ahmmm cough cough SARAH!)
How unbelievably sweet of you!

Today my postal carrier left a box and me being the huge dork that I am of course tore into it. It had no defining labels to let me know which company it came from. This led no clues to what was inside. I thought perhaps it was some little something gadget or treasure I had ordered. Being the internet craft Junkie that I am – perhaps something that I ordered for my own pal?

The tape removed the box ripped open.. oh dear

I can officially sock it up!

These are BEAUTIFUL !!!

 How completely thoughtful of you!

I have been blessed by partners in the swaps I joined since Oct (when I first started swapping) and met so many nice people. This pal has commented on my every entry I make and adds some funny comments and sweet ones as well. Shes been really super sweet and that is a highlight to anyones day. Mine – because its just nice to know there are internet friends in the world thinking of you.

You deserve a big wet mooochie kiss my pal !

Package from Kristie

I haven’t had time to post in the last few days. Its been as usual crazy around here. I have finally been able to take photos of the box my Jan Swap Partner Kristie sent me. Complete Surprise and really full of goodies.
Ok I said it on the blogspot for the crochet swap – but how much do I love the fact the needles are pink!!! I’ve already got a project on the circulars. Oh yes those RockStar needles actually inspired me to try this knitting in the round thing again.  I am making a Phiaro Scarf from KnitScene. I am about 10% into it. Its a big project and I dont knit as fast as most I think. I dont know maybe I just dont have the time others do to knit projects but I am committed to understanding this one! I want the feeling of knowing I can follow a pattern. Cast On Cottage (LYS) has a class where if you get stuck on a pattern you can go down and they will help you figure it out. Once I get to the end of this I will prob need that as it calls for some stitch dropping. I would hate to knit 22 inches of Stockinette Stitch only to discover I messed something up in dropping and then have to frog!

Often thats what kills my interest or ability to want to learn new knitting techniques. I get very sad when I mess up and have to frog.
On the needle news – I previewed the Spring 2008 issue of Interweave Knits. Ok how cute is this:

Very Audrey Hepburn!  I really need to order some back issues of IK. There are some really great projects in there. I am also really needing to start watching the ebay side of things for Rowan pattern books. Some of their patterns are just stunning.

Free Patterns have moved to Knitting Daily. I really have to start checking these sites because I just found some awesome pullovers and patterns for spring!
Also I posted this on ravelry – DOT’S DOOHICKEY
Its a great little organizer and really great for a desk or to use up extra scraps.

Well thats my mental out pour today. I am off to knit while i listen in on a call!

Cocoa Swap – The Questionnaire!

1. What is your favorite way to drink cocoa?
I really love cocoa and have had melted chocolate creamed and frothed or sweet delicious store bought brands stirred up and served in a big ol mug of goodness. The best part about any, is the sitting and enjoying the sweet warmth. I tend to savor.. I am a “in the moment” kinda gal.
2. Marshmallows or whipped cream?
Both : ) I love Plush Puffs, though as I really love homemade marshmallows. I make my own too!

1. What is your favorite type of yarn? In what colors?
I am a stash-er and impulse buyer. I am motivated to buy yarns based on feel. So I like the soft touch types. I love Chocolate Raspberry Turquoise and Lime.
2. Do you knit or crochet (or both)?
Both -I am a really proficient at crochet and still building my knitting skills. There is still a lot that confuses me about knitting and its something I really have been trying to learn. I would love to find that one REALLY good book and that breaks it all down. Especially DPNs and socks. I want to do socks SO BAD !!!
3. What are your favorite type of needles, would you like to try something new?
So far I love all my crochet hooks. I have discovered I do much better on wood type DPNs than metal or plastic. I get very frustrated quickly when I have worked so hard to build rows and drop 20 stitched off a DPN when trying to learn how to do knitting in the round.. LOL. Its one reason I have stayed away from Circulars and DPNs – I am the queen of dropped stitch@!
4. Do you have a healthy supply of notions?
Crochet yes – Knitting no. I have a few big needles and a size 6 set. I don’t have smaller or medium range or circulars that seem to be used for so many patterns.
5. What one thing do you keep thinking you need to buy for your knitting habit (outside of yarn)?
Needles really. At least for now to be able to try some new techniques and really start learning. Its frustrating to have to go buy a needle set every-time you want to try a new item. I have heard alot about KnitPicks and Denise Interchangeable needles. I would like to  know more about those and possibly invest in them for myself in the future.
6. What is your favorite ‘quick knit/crochet’ pattern (quick gratification)
(haha) Uhm.. Dishcloths.. HA! I like practicing a variety of cables/patterns, and Dishcloths have been instrumental in that. Its a quick easy way to work up swatches or test patterns in yarn you know your never going to use and TADA – you now have something to put in the bathroom or kitchen.

1. What is your favorite thing to do in the Winter?

If the day is right – get out shop walk around people watch.. bad wet weather I love to cuddle with a blanket and read or sit down with a craft book and project.
2. What is your favorite animal?
3. Do you get the ‘winter blahs’?
Yes I do I get restless and that manifests to blah weepy moments.
4. What is your favorite way to beat the blahs?
Walk walk walk. If still frustrated I need to sit quite by myself and work on something crafty. I very much need alone time when I am moody and blah.
5. What is the thing you are most looking forward to this spring?
Its kind of every ones chance to start fresh air out the house – its not too hot or cold so you really can enjoy outside or inside living. I do a clean sweep of the house – find treasures I forgot about and start my year anew.
6. What are your favorite treat?
Chocolate Popcorn – nuts – munchy  crunchy things. Roasted Cashews !
7. What is your favorite board game?
8. Do you have any children (furry or human)?
Both : ) Plenty of Cats and One Gothlet Tween
9. Do you have any allergies or special considerations you partner should know about?
I have food allergies. Mushrooms Oysters Shell Fisheees.

I have done Swaps with Deb since Sept and love it. I have the muju down and will always do these – their great fun for me. I love to gab I love to read.
I hope to design some patterns using Fair Isle techniques in the future as my skills grow and master those nasty little DPNs.
I do not have any subrscriptions currently to knit or crochet magazines but will often go pick some up. My favorites are of course any of the Interweave Press mags – Crochet! and Vogue Knitting.

In all the glory that be my pal Angela – she found two things in one swap that makes me purr. Hot Chocolate and Knitting.

How incredible perfect for the dulldrums of Feb. This one is in the kickoff stage but well far enough away to get together a groovy pack for your secret pal. It is a secret swap so you do need a hushhush email address. I just think this will be such a lovely swap for those grey days past the holidays.

I cant wait for it to start . I need a cocoa pick me up.

Its been a really busy week at work. I am really looking forward to this weekend!

Dear Christine

I you !!! I love my box and it could not have come on the most perfect of days. I have been feeling frustrated and very upset this week. I opened this box to discover a bevy of beauties and my mood just spun right around !
