Fall Into Autumn Swap

1. Do you knit or crochet? How long have you been doing it?
I do both (but can only make a scarf with knitting..lol) and have really done Crochet more since I was very little picking it up here and there. I have for the first time really educated myself and practiced the last 6-12 months.

2. Have you made dischloths before? Do you use them yourself, give them as gifts, or both?
Dishcloths are one of my constant practice pieces and something I always make to use up left overs. I do give them as gifts as well as facecloths. Those tend to be more requested as gifts in the family from the girls who love my hand made girlie gifts soaps and yummies.

3. What’s your favorite cotton to make cloths from? What cotton would you like to try that you haven’t before ?
I really love cotton blends that offer some more elasticity (that normal cots do not) and have found awesome color combinations and feel in Cascades Fixation line which is super soft springy and beautifully colored perfect for facecloths. Dishcloths I love to do in: Lion Brand – yes its cheap and easily accessible. Little plug for Lion. I love em.

4. If you knit, do you prefer circular or straight needles? For all, do you prefer wooden, metal, or plastic needles?
I love circular – even in crochet hooks. I have recently learned to do Tunisian. I collect all kinds of needles for different projects. My favorite is size H and I love the feel of  the woods. I cant knit well dont understand the purl or patterns yet.. so I cant answer this as well as I can for crochet..lol.

5. What are your favorite colors? Any colors you don’t like much?
Rock Star Pink and Red. I do not care for green funny enough, even though I am irish something about kelly green always was kinda ick to me. Aqua Blue Chocolates Raspberries Lime

6. What do you like best about Autumn?
The seasonal changes fresh air and the fact I can really get out and enjoy  being out, outdoors and going out with out humidity or heat exhaustion. I finally live in place where the trees wash ablaze in seasonal changes. I am really loving that!

7. Pies: Pumpkin? Apple? Pecan? All of em? or No Thanks!
Pecan first and always because I am a true southern gal. Pumpkin next because those spices and warmth sing in the season. Apple.. eh.. not really.

8. When you were a kid, were you the one who couldn’t wait to get started with school , or the one who overslept on the 1st day?
First up out the door and over to the glue pots to smell all the wonderful new scents of school. Fresh crayons, crisp paper, paste and pencil clippings.

9. Do you celebrate Halloween? (The real key here guys is especially knowing if you have an aversion to the holiday or little goodies/decorations associated with it, given the timeframe of the swap)
I live for Halloween. It is my Christmas. It starts Oct 1 and ends officially Nov 1. Even though black cats gremlins and ghouls stay around my house all  year long.

10. If you had to choose just 3 edible ‘goodies’ to eat for a full year, what 3 would you choose?
Candy Corn,  Candy Apples and mashed potatoes.

11. Do you have any pets? Kids? Husbands who seem like kids? 😉
I am single no hubbie for me! But I do have a tween who believes shes not only Uma Thurman kicking butt in killbill but the President of these here United States, A RockStar and of course fashion model. On the rare thunderstorm, she returns to my beautiful 12 year old pixie hiding under the covers with me giggling. She is my life I adore her – simply put. I do not know how I was so blessed to have her as part of my life. Not mom speaking out of pride here – but shes turning into quite a human being. We have 7 cats 1 dog 1 hamster 1 parrot. We love animals volunteer rescue and try to help where we can.

12. If you were to describe a particular yarn that shares traits of your personality, what would it be and why?
Hands down would have to be Jacey’s EyeBall Yarn Its zaney crazy fun and all seeing!
I have my eyes out for the unusually wonderful at all times. This is why I am like this yarn!

13. Do you use your cloths mostly for dishcloths, or as facecloths?
The rougher they are the more likely they are to be used for dish. Squenchy softies are for face goodness only!

14. Favorite Fall Holiday: Halloween or Thanksgiving and why? (Feel free to share another fall memory if you do not celebrate either of these holidays)
Again the Hallows take it! I like to be scared I love ghost stories. I love to dress up prance around and be silly. I believe in things that others do not and Halloween is a celebration of this spookie spirit frolicking. Cool weather – the moon is always more beautiful and brighter – the whispers in trees seem creepier.. oooOOOOoo

15. Do you have any allergies or aversions your pal should know about
Mushrooms bee stings and oysters !

Crochetoholic’s Swap Required Q&A : )

Get your saucy minds out of the gutter! I have been watching the C’ville forums for some time and also swap-bot livejournal and others for all these new swap/penpal exchanges. I have decided to not be shy and try one. Part of what is involved is telling a little bit more about yourself so you can get to know your pals and they you.
Debb’s Swap has some basic questions to get started.
My favorite colors rockstar pink and red always !

My hobbies I thrift and vintage shop – love all things old and retro. I am enjoying fiber arts and would love to have a spinning wheel one day, to complete my thread addiction in this woolen circle of life! I bellydance for fun and excercise (some would simply suggest I am having a spaz on my living room floor), and love music.

My kitchen theme and colors My kitchen is white – white – white. Its all cabinets. But I do have a lovely bar that opens to the living room. I have included a pictures : )

My bathroom theme and colors Very tropical – hybiscus. Pink purple and black

My dislikes

My crafts..what I like I love crochet – sewing – making clothes – beading and spindle spinning (which I still totally suck at).

My allergies mushrooms- clams/oysters – bee stings

My favorite pets Wolfe my black lab and all 7 of my cats – Chip – my mothers boston terrier who is living with us for awhile right now is my love and constant source of entertainment.

My favorite scents… Patchouli – Vanilla – Cinnamon

Other stuff about me… I am just picking up crochet again. As detailed in my about me page, I had a very bad injury that put me in bed for a few weeks. I picked up the needles to keep myself sane and offer peace. I have recently moved to a new state, trying to meet people and make new friends. Its been a really rough year and my soul is hungry for happy exchanges and crafty vibrant folk. I am a single mom and love to share artistic expression with my Tween. I am a bit of an earth mama – punker – free thinking – dress radically – office lacky by day – Wyld Womyn by night – type of person.

Four Funerals and one Wedding

I am not quite sure why I was He-geeking. I do it every so often to stimulate my taste buds perhaps. Its my sensation of people watching. I could not ever be a paparazzi and I think its too late in my career to proclaim myself the next wannabe Annie Lebowitz. How I would love to spend a day with that woman.
So I collect photos of things I love and drool over, online.

This year has been such a whirlwind of emotions. It seems more sadness than joy has been afoot lately and I attribute that to soul cleansing. I think there is a period in everyones lives where cleansing of old standards and view points has to happen to self actualize and see yourself more clearly. Sadly though there seems to be some tragedy or another attached to it.

My family is the great american f*up. I can not really say it any other way. However in all the dysfunction and distance and inability to maintain any type of communication there is consistancy. The aunts were always good for a laugh and had some notion potion or pultice to cure anything. One affectionately deemed the black widow – killed her husband and never went to jail for it. While its never been said and no one knows what *really* happened. Just think Fried Green Tomatoes. I am sure 100 years from now some archaeologist will find his remains fossilized in the slick dark silt of the river. There were always horses, and amazing food and recipes going back to lands not remembered anymore. Then there were get togethers.. when they happened. They were very good.
Food and more food, that tasted like nothing you have ever had. Sweet corn picked right in the back yard and orange tomatoes , that had no acid but tons of flavor cut thick on a fresh ham sandwich. There were no lunchables or yogurt cups with this group. Forget about Starbucks. The coffee came straight from the percolator. Better than any latte you could lay your lips on.
I remember these days. I remember growing up around these batty personalities. I remember the people (while relationships have been not the best lately), are part of my direst bloodline and physical history. I had rather strained relations with one Aunt after some meddling and inappropriate nonesense on her behalf. When she passed at the end of July I was remorseful over her loss, while not really willing to grieve over her. Its still weird to me. Yesterday however I got the news my Uncle (the oldest of Ethel’s children) had in turn passed as well sunday evening. This loss I am feeling much more deeply. I think, I know my mom is too.
This uncle was our family historian and guardian. He taught my mother so much including how to read and write. He watched over her in Ethels abusive years and made sure my mom always had something to eat. The sisters and brothers raised my mom more than Ethel did. He was the true protector and when grandfather clarence died leaving ethel with children in both countries to financially mind for – it was he who went to work to support the family and Ehtels burbon luxuries. My mom is really feeling her family circle grow smaller and it must be such a mortality marker. Those who have been with  you, your whole life now passing on.
I do not do funerals. I have helped with phone calls and will send flowers and legal notices. I will make a visit to them both when I travel up there in a few months. I will take recipes and I will cook for the other Aunts. I will tell them funny stories and make them laugh. I will cut thick tomatoes and even maybe make some really great coffee.

Bookers Wedding –
My girlfriends wedding from this April is being featured in The Knot magazine. Sunshiney spot.
She was called by her photographer earlier last week and then by the editor. I guess they had seen her photos online at her photographers site and did deeper research. The wedding was goregous and amazingly on a budget. It was held in a vineyard with reception in a barn. The subtle elegance and what you can really do on a budget was their main interest after seeing the stunning photographs. She is so excited. I cant wait to get the issue it comes out in.
